All our dentists adhere to the rules governing the profession under strict guidance from the General Dental Council (GDC) “Standards for Dental Professionals”.

Maria Abril Hurtado

BDS, MSC Implantology

Maria originally qualified in 1987 and moved to Spain in 1992, where she continued her postgraduate training and specialized in implant, advanced oral and periodontal surgery. From managing her own Practice in Madrid she relocated to the UK in 2010 and is now firmly established as the Principal dentist of Church House in Shoreham by Sea.

Maria is also qualified in conscious sedation and works closely with our other dentists, ensuring that nervous patients remain calm and relaxed, no matter what treatment they require.

Outside of work, Maria enjoys gardening, travel, hiking, swimming and ocean kayaking.

Nikoletta Kafantari

DDS (GREECE) MSC ENDODONTICS (EASTMAN)

Nikoletta Kafantari was selected in the MSc programme of Endodontics at the Eastman Dental Institute University London in 2010, and whilst being the youngest candidate she completed it with distinction.

Nikoletta has gained clinical experience in the past in Private practices both in Greece and in UK and has participated in research programmes regarding new advances in Endodontics in Universities in both countries. Her specific interest has been the identification of the factors associated with weakening of teeth as a result of endodontic treatment.

Presently, Nikoletta is based in Shoreham-by-sea and is working as an Endodontist in private practices across Sussex.

Nikoletta has gained the required experience to analyse endodontic problems, discuss available options and select the appropriate treatment for each patient. She can systematically plan the management of an endodontic problem and has the clinical and surgical skills to execute it with a high degree of competence.

In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family and outdoor sports.

Mauricio Carrillo

BDS(Hons), MFDS RCSEd
GDC No 114243

Mauricio is an experienced dentist with special interest in Oral surgery and Cosmetic Dentistry, whose arrival strengthens our Dental Team at Church House. Mauricio qualified from the Colombian Dentistry School in 2002 with honours and convert his degree in the University of Granada (Spain) in 2008 and in the UK in 2012. He then went on to become a Member of The Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

When not at the Practice, Mauricio is currently working as a Specialty Doctor in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Worthing Hospital. The work involves oral surgery and he collaborates in maxillofacial procedures. He is also interested in facial pain and disorders of the jaw joint, antiaging treatments and is an Invisalign (invisible braces) provider, offering a valuable complement to our patients.

Mauricio has a wide range of leisure interests including languages, football and dancing.

Giovanny Restrepo

BDS (special interest in Periodontics)

Dr Giovanny Restrepo completed his degree in Colombia and did his first registration as a dentist in Europe in Spain then in the UK.

Giovanny studied Periodontics and Prosthodontics in Spain, his passion for dentistry has led him to attend courses, both internationally and in the UK. Moreover, he is member of European Federation of Periodontology, British Society of Periodontology, Spanish Society of Periodontology and Ossoeintegration, Spanish Society of Prosthodontics.

He combined his interest in dentistry with a variety of sports, arts and meditation.

Hygienists

Tim Rhodes

GDC No. 244794

Tim studied dental hygiene and therapy at the University of Sheffield and has 6 years clinical experience. He is also trained in tooth whitening procedures and some aspects of facial aesthetics. Before coming to our practice Tim spent 4 years working as a dental therapist in Cumbria and is well experienced in preventative and restorative dentistry.

In his spare time he likes to keep fit cycling and recently competed in the renowned Fred Whitton Cycle race. Other interests include visiting archaeological sites, watching UFC and preparing wild game dishes. Tim dreams to one day build his own car and go paragliding in India.

Lauren Chapman

GDC No. 246101

Lauren is originally from Dorset, where she began her career as a Dental Nurse in 2010. She moved to Portsmouth to study for her BSc in Dental Hygiene Therapy, then to Sussex after qualifying in early 2017. She splits her professional time between several practices in Sussex.

Lauren is dedicated to helping her patients improve their oral health, with a big emphasis on prevention. She is particularly interested in treating nervous patients, providing the best standard of care in a relaxed manner to make treatment as comfortable as possible.

Outside work, Lauren loves to spend as much as time as possible with her Labrador, Sam, as well as running, cooking and travelling.

Lorraine Backshall

GDC No. 131944

Lorraine first joined the Practice in 1985 and rejoined when the Practice relocated in 2002. She is a most experienced nurse and capable member of staff who has not only raised 3 children but has also set up and run her own nursery. She is a fully registered Dental Nurse.

Receptionist

Anna Roberts

Anna originally came to Church House as a trainee dental nurse, but with her attention to detail and organisational skills, it soon became apparent that she would be a valuable asset in reception. Moreover, she has several years experience in the retail sector and so is well versed in customer service.

Away from work, Anna enjoys shopping and socialising with friends.

Practice Manager

Bob Harris

Bob is a medical microbiologist and research scientist, and has spent many years travelling the world developing new antiviral drugs and overseeing clinical trials. He has been a Director of several scientific and educational companies since 1985 and so brings considerable management and business experience to the Practice.

Bob’s knowledge of medicinal aromatic plants led to his involvement with a French Non Governmental Organisation for the protection of the forests of Madagascar, where he developed a passion for conservation, forest trekking and of course, lemurs.
